I just installed Windows Server 2003 Enterprise on my old desktop today.

And, lets just say, servers are not my specialty. What do I do to host a website here? I set up DNS, now what? How do I set up IIS (do I need to)? I see lots of tutorials for this for WS 2008, but not 2003.

How do I set it up so I can access it from another place, and get files off of there/admin it from another network?

Tutorials help guys. I’m new to servers.

Google isn’t turning up the stuff I need. Thats why I resorted to this.

And yes, I am determined to learn. I need to.

I have recently taken a position at a small business and they want me to tune up their website. They were currently using iPower and I can’t stand it. I am pretty savvy with HTML and learn quickly with the help of Google. I am looking for a hosting service that can provide me with customizable HTML as well as some decent tools for publishing. Any input would be great. Thanks guys (and girls). Flash capability is a necessity as well

I am trying to learn web design and need to find a cheap web host. I checked out Comcast and Google but they just have these pre-designed templates that look like they’re for people who just want to post stuff about their family reunion, etc. What I want to do is design pages in html and CSS and display them and the ones I mention won’t let me do that. How do I find a good (and cheap) web hosting service. Are there any that you would recommend?

Hosting DC++ Hub?

I have a Ubuntu Linux server (Ubuntu 7.04). It has 256mb RAM, three 8gb Hard drives (may soon have a 40gb), and a P3 @ 600MHz. I would like to set up a DC++ Server (or hub…which ever it is called). I already have the client installed and working, and I have a 10/100 NIC. I have limited experience with terminal, and would really either like a walk through, or a really easy way to set it up.
Thanks!
Steven:
I think this is the right location. And I did search google. And I found that same page. And that page is the installation of a client, not a HUB. Also, I am fine with using terminal, but because time is not really an issue, I would rather use a Graphical installer. Well, now I have two copies of the client, and I just installed one version of the server from:

Thanks!

Google adsense with Yahoo web hosting?

I’m trying to set up my google adsense account so I can display ads on my new site. This is what the Google Domain set up says to do:

1. Log in to your account at smallbusiness.yahoo.com

2. Click Domain Control Panel below the domain you’d like to use with AdSense for domains

3. Click Manage Advanced DNS Settings.

4. By default, there are 2 A Records & 2 CNAME Records created for your domains, some of these will be replaced automatically

1. Click Add Record. Enter www for the source, and pub-xxxxxxxxx.afd.ghs.google.com. for the Destination (where pub-xxxxxxxxx is your unique string found on the AdSense for domains setup page). Click Submit, and click Submit on the following screen.

2. Click Add Record. Leave the Source field blank and enter XXX.XXX.XX.XX for Destination. Click Submit, and click Submit on the following screen.

3. Click Add Record. Leave the Source field blank and enter XXX.XXX.XX.XX for Destination. Click Submit, and click Submit on the following screen.

4. Click Add Record. Leave the Source field blank and enter XXX.XXX.XX.XX for Destination. Click Submit, and click Submit on the following screen.

5. Click Add Record. Leave the Source field blank and enter XXX.XXX.XX.XX for Destination. Click Submit, and click Submit on the following screen.

Congratulations! Your domain is now configured to point to Google. Keep in mind that changes to DNS record settings may take up to 48 hours.

(where the X’s are, are actual destination numbers; didn’t know if I should post that.)

By the time I get to step 2 of the second set of instructions, where it says to leave the source field blank, and I hit submit, I get a message that pops up and says, "The record that you requested cannot be set up because it would otherwise interfere with DNS records Yahoo! has created to support your service. Please choose a different source hostname."

I am at a loss here. I contacted Yahoo! directly but the guy said he couldn’t help me because you cannot leave the source field blank and he had no other suggestions for me. I cannot find a way to contact Google directly and I found this question posed in the adsense forums but no one apparently knew the answer. I would appreciate some help. I’m sure some people who have Yahoo! Web Hosting services have Google Adsense on their site. I have limited experience in these matters. Thank you,

How do i get Google to delete bad links?

I redesigned my website www.gsmchicago.com from a e-store to a forum site and i have over 300 broken url’s now and i need to delete those pages listed in google. I could use a .htaccess redirect to the home page but i am having problems with shared hosting. I think i just want to delete them now but how? or will they just fall off as my new site is re-indexed?

I would like to build my own server to keep in my house. I want to have the ability to sell designated amounts of my server space to random people. My question is what server operating system allows this? I know Windows Home Server is reliable and easy to use, but, from my understanding, it only gives you the ability to host your own websites and is incapable of assigning server space/access to clients in another part of the country to host their website(s). I know there isn’t that much money to be made. I am interested in this as a hobby and a way to make some monthly pocket cash. Let me be clear. I am not interested in buying bulk server space from large companies to resell. I want to sell server space from my own self-built server. Does anyone know what server os will allow this functionality, while at the same time being stable, secure, and relatively easy to use? Does such a thing even exist? Please help. Google has let me down in the search for these answers.
