I am trying to write an application for Mac OS X that will modify the /etc/hosts file. It is responsible for mapping IP addresses to domain names. When I use the fopen command with the directory as /etc/hosts, nothing happens. Yet when I made this application for windows, I could point directly to the file, c:/WINDOWS/system32/drivers/etc/hosts, it works fine. Do I need to use a different command, other than fopen, or do I need to be more specific in directing the application to the file. Do hard drives have letter names in OS X like they do in windows?
I wish people would read the whole question. I need to know how to refer to it using C and the command fopen. Not how to do it in unix, I already know that…

I am new to this process. However, I went in to register my domain names at Go Daddy and went to choose my web hosting service and it only had options for Linux- and Windows-based OS. As a Mac owner what are my options? I ran into this issue at Enom as well. I plan to use Joomla as my CMS (not sure if this helps).

I’m fairly new with choosing web hosts on the web and as a web designer, I’m having various clients in different hosting services, some better or worse than others but they become difficult for me to handle.
I was thinking about using 1 account on a clustered/grid servers to manage all websites at once, but I’m unsure of how I’ll be able to sort out the domain names or if I’ll only be able to use one.
If I’m only able to ensue 1 domain name, can you please refer me to a host/service that could help me?
P.S. The hosts I was looking at were myriadnetwork and mediatemple.

I just paid for a plan which claims unlimited domain names included in the hosting. As soon as I started asking about how to add new domains, they changed the help screen in my cpanel (no more manage domains button) and they don’t reply to my emails. I am still within 30-days money back guarantee, but I want to give them a chance to respond first.

I am searching for a web hosting service that can give me reliable service, my own domain names, a series of email accounts, PHP capabilities, decent storage space, and not cost much. Does anyone know of any businesses that are particularly good and well-known?
I’m a web developer and I’m looking for a place to host my own site, as well as recommend to potential clients. Reliability, security, and price are particularly important.

I’m thinking of doing reseller web hosting, perhaps with HostGator. I understand that I pay a monthly fee for my account, and keep 100% of the profits made.
So, does this mean I don’t need any fancy equipment? Can I easily manage customer accounts and create domain names?
Also, what should I do for customer support? I can do it via e-mail, but I won’t be available 24/7.

Is Defender Hosting a good company for VPS services? I have heard that their CEO is a bit crooked, and has a habit of stealing domain names from clients. I want a company whose reputation is trustworthy.
