We work on some projects, scripts, which needs sometime dedicated server to host to run.
As dedicated servers are just an extra cost for us, as we do need this hosting for just testing purpose for 10 to 20 days for script. So i am thinking to run own webserver for this job from my home. Can anyone tell me what is needed for this type of task, and is it feasible… have you done this before, if so what have been your experiences?
Note: I have extra desktop pc. with DSL internet Connection
with unlimited bandwidth….

I want to run Unix/Linux, with Apache….
but I am not much sure, how to link our domain name
with this server….
Hope you can answer the question asap
Thanks in advance.

I am trying to figure out how to create an Apache Virtual Host without having to re-start the Web Server.

(yes, this is a server n00b question)
One potential host has Apache/1.3.33 (Debian GNU/Linux) server type…
And the other one has an Intel C2Q Q9300 Single Processor Quad Core.
Which one is better, if all else is equal?
This is just for running a personal site, btw. And I’m NOT BUYING A SERVER, I’m trying to choose between 2 hosts with the above mentioned servers.
Thanks in advance.

I already have my desktop setup and everything, but im having trouble with getting a server up, i tried apache, but i could never get it to set up, then i tried abyss and it worked, but never let me access it out of my home. Anyone know what to do? have any programs that i can use?
If i cannot do this with XP, i also have windows server 2008 (never used it), so is there a guide for that instead?
Thanks, i know it sounds retarded, but its the best i can do for an explanation of my situation, i work well with hardware and software such as OS’s, but don’t have the slightest clue on setting up a server. So even if its complicated, please post the guide.
And yes i am aware or free hosting, but i cant use that, this site im putting up is a video sharing site (much like youtube) but better. And yes uploading works tested it over the network with abyss (at-least i think, i cant remember).
Anyway thanks

We’re setting up two new servers for a client’s office… Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2003 R2. The Server 2008 is, by far, the beefier machine (dual PCIe SSDs, Xeon W3520, etc). We’re looking to set up Terminal Services (Remote Desktop Services) to be hosted along with a databse application on the 2008 server. We’re also going to be using the Server 2k3 machine to host a web server (using Apache, I believe) that will be accessible from the internet.
I understand that running TS and Active Directory on the same server is frowned upon due to some sort of security concerns. What exactly are the security concerns for running the Active Directory and Terminal Services on the same server? Are there significant performance reason too? And between running Active Directory on the Server 2008 (with TS) or running it on an internet-facing web server running 2003, which would be better and more secure? Should I run both on the 2008 machine and take advantage of the newer functionality present in a Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain controller? Or run it on the 2k3 with lesser hardware?

the question is :
Host a web server on your own machine (IIS/Apache), perform a denial of service (you
may write a simple program to perform multiple pings) to this web server through a
virtual machine/ other machine, observe the server machine’s CPU Usage History to see
whether the attack is successful.
—
how can i attack this server ,, by pinging 127.0.0.1 ?
from which platform i can attack my local server ?
how to observe the server machine’s CPU Usage History ?

I want to experiment with servers a little and I ran into a problem. The host is Windows XP and the guest is Ubuntu server. I managed to set up openSSH and apache and the site is visible from the host but I cant access it from outside my LAN (I have a router) or inside my LAN (from a different computer of course). How to configure Vmware & XP so I can access my virtual server from the internet?
If I choose bridged connection XP complains something like "there is another IP conflicting with this one"

Does anyone know…
FREE web hosting, here are the server requirements :-
- MySQL 4+
- phpMyAdmin (MySQL Administration Tool)
- PHP 4+
- GD Library enabled
- ionCube loader
- mod_rewrite Apache
Preferably a Linux server, whatever that means :S
It must NOT Display ADS
I had one, with 000webhost but it wont let me upload the file, so it would be good to have one that understands RAR files etc and has an upload limit over 5MB.
Thankyou.

I’m planning on using an old Pentium III I have lying around the housel. I want to use some linux/unix distribution, and I know that Apache is the software to be used in these cases.
My goal is not the webserver itself, I really just want to learn a bit more about the linux universe and all which surrounds it. I also plan on using PHP or Perl, and SQL.
What Linux/Unix do you recommend, and which books/articles on this do you find to be helpful? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,
Deimos

Hello,
I am a web designer of sorts and I like to create websites for my self and others. I want to start hosting my websites and my clients websites on my server (so that I can offer more support my clients are not tech savvy and need something fully managed plan). I am an optimist and hope one of my many websites can get high traffic. My websites are designed using php, I am familiar with Apache and Mysql and have had some experience with a virtual dedicated server before. I would like to know the cost of running these such websites and the cost for hardware. I want to run a web server and an a separate sql server. I was also thinking of starting with a used prolient or something along those lines maybe U1 or U2. Any suggestions will be appreciated and welcome. As I said before I am an optimist and want something that is scalable reliable and fast(and cheap too)I plan to run something along the lines of 400 single page websites(could be more with time) and 2-3 more complex with search options and data bases ( the works) with a good UI. I know I am asking for a lot but hope you guys and gals can help me out.
Thanks for your help in advance
